In 1916, Phra Ajaan Mun stayed with Phra Ajaan Sao whom he greatly admired. Although he had been into monkhood for 20 years, he performed a monk’s task for Phra Ajaan Sao—cleaning the monk’s bowl, washing the Buddhist monk’s robes and fetching water—just as he always did when he newly entered monkhood. At this temple, he also gave a piece of advice to Phra Ajaan Sao about his desire to become a silent Buddha who would adhere to austere practices alone, not seeking to promulgate Buddhism.
